WASHINGTON, D.C.–The Metropolitan Police Department’s Special Victims Unit is investigating an incident involving the death of an unidentified African-American female infant who was found abandoned in the 3000 block of Channing Street,
NE, at approximately 11:30 P.M, on Sunday, January 15, 2012. The case was subsequently ruled as a homicide.
Metropolitan Police Department seeks the public’s assistance in gathering information regarding this incident.

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 15, 2012, at approximately 11:34 P.M..At this time, units from the Fifth District and personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services made a response. They went to the 3000 block of Channing Street, NE to investigate the report of an unconscious infant. Upon their arrival, they observed a resident at that location performing CPR on an unconscious infant. Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services transported the infant to Children’s National Medical Center. This was where the infant was pronounced dead at 2:21 A.M. on Monday, January 16, 2012. The cause and manner of the child’s death has been ruled a homicide by hypothermia.

Preliminary investigation has made a revelation. It showed that a resident in the 3000 block of Channing Street, NE was walking home. At the time, he observed the infant wrapped in a towel on a step of another residence. It was located in the same block. The resident and another witness determined that the infant was cold and unconscious, and brought the infant into their home and called 911.

This unidentified DC Jane Doe was found seven years ago. And she is ruled a homicide victim. Behind her case are those with information who have yet to come forward with what they know. Found as an infant, DC Baby Doe may be matched with a missing baby infant, who disappeared at least seven years ago. Behind her unsolved case is a family or guardians who have not come forward. Likely, it will take identifying one of the biological parents of this baby (or another biological relative) to identify this unidentified female.
