Find missing William Paul Smolinski Jr.! Better known as Billy, he is missing out of Waterbury, Connecticut. This missing man has not been seen since August 24, 2004. His disappearance is classified as Endangered Missing. Billy was born on January 14. When last seen, he was 31 years old. And when last seen, he was described as 5’11” and 6’0″ and weighed 200 pounds. He is 44 years old now. Billy is a Caucasian male. His hair is light brown and his eyes are blue. Smolinski’s nicknames are Bill and Billy.

More Description

Billy is described as bowlegged. And his left ear is pierced. He has a blue cross tattooed on his left shoulder. And it is outlined in orange. He has another cross with the name “Pruitt” tattooed on the inside on his right forearm. At the Time of his disappearance, Smolinski’s hair was in a crew-cut. He wears 10 1/2 shoes. And he wears size 36-32 pants. For his shirts, he wore large or extra-large. At the time, Billy was wearing a small diamond earring and a gold chain rope-style necklace. It had a cross pendant.

Billy may have been wearing blue jeans. And he was wearing a blue denim shirt and work boots. Medical conditions? He reportedly is allergic to shellfish. Otherwise, Billy has no known medical conditions. He is said to be in good physical and mental health.

Billy is missing from home. He was last seen there in the vicinity of the 100 block of Holly Street. This was in Waterbury, Connecticut. Smolinski was last seen between 3:30 P.M. and 3:45 P.M. His missing date was August 24, 2004. Billy went to a neighbor’s residence and asked her to take care of his German Shepherd dog. He did this as he was leaving for three days to see about a car. He was supposed to give his keys to her so she could go inside and feed the animal. But he never did. Billy has never been heard from again.

He had left everything behind. All of his belongings, including his truck, were left behind. The truck is described as a white late 1970’s or early 1980’s Ford pickup truck. And his wallet and his keys were inside the truck.

What happened? And why? Smolinski had no history of drug abuse and no police record. And he drank only on a social basis at the time he vanished. And at that time, he held several jobs. He worked for Midland Heating and Air Conditioning. He worked full-time as an apprentice technician. He had a part-time job driving a tow truck with Durable Towing. And he mowed lawns and plowed driveways for side income. Billy was considered a dependable worker. And he had just been offered extra hours at at one of his jobs after being laid off at another job.

After He Vanished

Smolonski had deposited most of his paycheck in the bank just before he went missing. His bank accounts have not been accessed since then. At the time of his disappearance, Billy was prepping his house to be painted. His parents had sold the house after he went missing. Smolinski’s Social Security Number hasn’t been used since he went missing. A man named CHad Hanson told investigators that Smolinski had been murdered. And he knew where the body was. He claimed that a man named Shaun Karpiuk had beaten Smolinski to death. And Hanson helped him bury the remains. They were supposedly wrapped in carpet.

In 2005, Karpiuk died of a heroin overdose. Hanson’s tips resulted in authorities searching locations in Seymour, Connecticut in 2008. Searches were done in Naugatuck State Forest in 2010. And in 2011, searches were conducted in Oxford, Connecticut. The purpose was to recover Billy’s body. The Oxford search lasted for ten days and cost more than $100,000. In 2011, Chard Hanson was charged with interfering with police and making a false statement. Authorities stated that he had lied to them on purpose, in order to mislead the investigation. The charges could have resulted in a seven-year prison sentence.

More Charges

Chad Hanson faced more charges. In January 2013, Hanson pleaded guilty to one charge of making a false statement concerning injury or death. In this case, he was sentenced to four and a half years. Reportedly, he has twelve prior criminal convictions. Both Hanson and Karpiuk are considered persons of interest in Smolinski’s disappearance. Witnesses told police that Hanson had bragged about killing Smolinski with Karpiuk. And he claimed that his body would never be found.

Hanson is described as a habitual drug user. And he was usually under the influence of heroin or crack-cocaine. And he was under such influence at the time he made the statements. He insists that he is innocent in Billy’s disappearance.

Who Is Madeleine Gleason?

Madeleine Gleason is the mother of Karpiuk. She was Billy’s former girlfriend. They had dated for one year. And they had broken up shortly before Billy went missing. This was because Smolinski believed that she was seeing another man. On the day of his disappearance, Billy was at her residence. According to Gleason, he seemed “a little depressed” when he left. She was dating Christ Sorenson. He lived in Woodbridge, Connecticut. Sorenson told police that Smolinski had called him that day and told him to “watch your back at all times.”

In fact, the last three phone calls Smolinski made were to Sorenson. After Billy’s disappearance, Gleason sued his loved ones. She claimed that they had “harassed her and falsely accused her” of being involved in his case. A judge had ruled in Gleason’s favor and awarded her $52,000 in damages. That verdict is under appeal.

Beliefs O Family N Authorities

The mother of Billy Smolinski believes Hanson is telling the truth about one matter. Reportedly, she believes his story about her son’s resumed murder and helping him dispose of the body. But she believes he isn’t being honest about where they put her son. Smolinski’s family fears for his safety. They state that he rarely travels anywhere. And it is uncharacteristic of him to leave without warning. Initially, authorities believed he left voluntarily. But they now suspect foul play in his case.

This Blogger blog provides an article that discusses Billy’s Law. This legislation was inspired by Billy’s disappearance and his parents’ activism on behalf of victims. It is titled Help Find the Missing Act S3019. The proposed legislation is meant to help families with missing loved ones to find them.
