When a person is a runaway, it seems most of us assume that they are safe. But runaway minors have no way of supporting themselves. Many of the voluntarily missing live on the streets or in homeless shelters. Even if they choose to disappear, their families love them and miss them. They go through the same nightmare as those in whose cases foul play is involved. Even if foul play didn’t cause Sydney’s disappearance, she can encounter it down the line. That’s why she needs to be protected from herself. Most teenagers are unaware of the dangers “out there.”
