She attended a Halloween party during the early morning hours of November 1, 2001. This was at the Player’s Nite Club in the 100 block of west College Avenue. She departed from the party at 2:00 A.M. Ten she stopped by a friend’s home for two hours.

Song had another friend who dropped her off outside of her residence. That was at State College Park Apartments in the 300 block of West Clinton Avenue. The time was approximately 4:00 A.M. Cindy had been drinking that evening. And she was somewhat drunk when she was taken to her apartment. Song has never been heard from again.
Song’s friends reported her as a missing person when she failed to contact anyone by November 4. That was three days after she went missing. Nearly all of Cindy’s personal belongings were inside her residence. This included her backpack and her cellular that she normally carried.

Mysterious Disappearance

The false eyelashes that Song wore were found inside the apartment. They were part of her costume. Her keys and purse contained her credit card and Driver’s License. These were the only items missing from her home. Her cellular phone was turned off. And she didn’t place any phone calls from the apartment returning home. Nor was there any indication of a struggle or foul play at the scene. Song didn’t have any travel plans in November 2002. Her loved ones stated that it was unlike her to leave without warning.

Family Theories

Cindy’s loved ones insisted that she wasn’t suffering from any personal problems. Not at the time of her disappearance. There has been no activity on her credit cards since she went missing. Song had broken up with her boyfriend a month before her disappearance. And her loved ones had speculated that she might have chosen to leave or commit suicide as a result. But her roommates say that she was healing from the breakup and wasn’t depressed over it. Some people speculated that Song was abducted from the apartment. Others believe that she may have been taken after walking to a nearby store. For she often walked.

There are few clues in Song’s case. Police investigated the possibility that Cindy’s disappearance was drug-related. Her diary entries indicate that she and her boyfriend experimented with marijuana and Ectasy. But there is no evidence that Cindy had used drugs on the night of her disappearance. And so the drug theory was eventually discarded. Authorities got a tip from a woman in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It was nearly 200 miles from Song’s apartment. And shortly after she vanished.

A Tip?

The tipster claimed that she was a woman matching Song’s description. This was from inside with an unidentified male in the city’s Chinatown district. The witness said that the woman called for help. But the man interrupted her and told the witness to leave. Investigators said that the witness’s story changed several times. And they have been unable verify her statements. Authorities keep trying to identify the man allegedly seen by the woman.
He is described as having an olive or light brown complexion with medium length hair. Investigators stated that the man was not a suspect in Cindy’s case. But they’d like to question him.

Connected Cases?

Song’s case has been linked to other disappearances. Some have linked her missing case to that of Joshua Guimond, Ericka Dalquist, Chris Jenkins, and Michael Noll. All four are college-aged people who went missing the same time of year Song did. All vanished after attending parties, like Song. But they vanished one year later, in the Minnesota/Wisconsin area. Included here are photos of three of them.

Jenkins and Noll were both found deceased in bodies of water. That was after they went missing. No one has been charged in connection with their deaths. Dalquist, 21, vanished from Brainerd, Minnesota, on October 30, 2002. Her remains were found on May 15, 2004. And they were found on property that a long-time suspect in her case owned. And his name is William Gene Myears. He was charged with second-degree murder in connection with Dalquist’s death. The disappearances of the four Minnesotans aren’t believed to be related. This is despite the similarities in their cases. Authorities from the relevant jurisdictions talked about how Song’s case may be related to the Minnesota cases. But this is believed to be unlikely.

Another Possibility?

There is another possible lead. It was investigated when bank robber Hugo Marcus Selenski was arrested. And several sets of human remains, believed to be from between five and twelve people, were found in his backyard.
None of the remains were from Song. Selenski told police that he and another man, Michael Jason Kerkowski Jr, saw Cindy on the night of her disappearance. He mistook her for a prostitute. And he abducted her and kept her imprisoned in a walk-in safe in his yard. Until she died.

Is This the Lead?

Selenski says more. He claims that they then buried Song’s body in Luzerne, Pennsylvania. Kerkowski couldn’t confirm or deny Selenski’s account. For he himself was one of the people buried in Selenski’s backyard. For he stated that he killed Kerkowski after learning that he had kept Song’s bunny ears as a souvenir of the crime.
But one of Selenski’s friends told police that Selenski had boasted of the murder to him. Investigators have been unable to prove Selenski’s involvement in Song’s disappearance. But they haven’t ruled him out as a suspect.

Justice Denied In Other Cases?

Selenski was acquitted of murder charges against him. But he was convicted of two counts of abuse of a corpse in March 2006. One of his associates is Steven Allan Martin, who is considered a person of interest in the case of another Pennsylvania woman, Phylicia Thomas. Martin was imprisoned on unrelated charges when he committed suicide in 2004. He was never charged in connection with Thomas’s and Barziloski’s disappearances. Selenski hasn’t been linked to either to either woman’s case. He’s only linked through his friendship with Martin.

Where is the Justice 4 Cindy?

Minority groups on the college campus have criticized law enforcement university officials. They’ve deplored the lack of progress in Cindy Song’s case. Authorities have stated that they have investigated every lead in her disappearance. But there remains little evidence. Song’s family had traveled from South Korea to the United States soon after her disappearance. They cleaned her apartment shortly after the initial police search. And they may have unintentionally destroyed what physical evidence there may have been.
