Circumstances

Gina Brooks was last seen where she lived off Fredericktown, Missouri. She was last seen on August 5, 1989. Gina had come home at 10:00 P.M. after seeing her brother’s baseball game. A short time later, Gina said that she was going for a ride on her ten-speed girl’s bicycle. Gina never came back. Her disappearance was reported at 2:00 A.M., four hours later. When she was last seen, Gina was standing near her church. Then a battered white, gray, green, or blue station wagon pulled it. The station wagon had Missouri license plates. The driver spoke to Gina.

Abduction

Gina got back on her bike. She turned south on Mine La Motte. Later, some witnesses, including Gina’s boyfriend, heard someone screaming for help. A vehicle was seen turning left on Franklin. And it was seen driving towards Highway 67. Gina’s bicycle was found abandoned on a residential lawn. It was found on High Street, five blocks from her home. Gina’s bicycle was located earlier in the evening. But there was no sign of Gina then, or ever. She was never seen again. In 1998, three men were implicated in Gina’s disappearance.

Two Suspects

The first suspect was Nathan D. “Danny” Williams. In 1999, he was charged with Gina’s murder. Investigators stated that a witness identified Williams as the man who was seated in the back of the station wagon with Gina, on the night she was abducted. Witnesses also identified Bryant Squire was the driver was the driver of the station wagon. But he has since died of cancer and AIDS-related complications. He allegedly made a deathbed statement to nurses. It implicated Williams and himself in Gina’s abduction and murder, as well as in other crimes.

Another Suspect

Timothy R. Bellew was a friend of both Williams and Squires. Initially, he was implicated in Gina’s disappearance also. Bellew confessed that he had lied to the the the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) when asked where Gina’s remains were. He claimed that Gina was buried in an abandoned meat freezer. And her remains were buried on his father’s 96-acre property. But extensive searches of the area, lasting till 2001, have turned up no evidence. Williams pleaded not guilty to the first-degree murder charge against him in 1996.

Charges Dropped

Authorities believe that Williams was the person responsible for Gina’s murder in 1989. Despite his not guilty plea, authorities believe that he slit Gina’s throat. Squires and Bellew, they believe, helped Williams cover up the crime. Both William and Bellew have records of sex offenses and other crimes. Bellew was charged with second-degree murder in Gina’s case. In 1999, the murder charged against William was dropped for lack of evidence. But he was charged with lying to investigators about where Gina’s body was located. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 months in prison.

More Charges Dropped in Gina’s Abduction

In 2003, the murder charges against William were also dropped. Authorities believe that the men were involved in Gina’s presumed murder. But they state that there isn’t enough evidence to convict them at trial. Williams had also been charged in the 1975 murder of a young woman. That charge was also dropped for lack of evidence in 1998. That was ten days before the trial was supposed to begin. He is still in prison for an unrelated rape charge. And he is a suspect in in the 1979 disappearance of 12 year old Tammy Surdam. Gina Dawn Brooks is still missing.

Little information seems available about Gina’s family. I haven’e been able to find them on social media or the Internet. But it safe to say that they have been suffering for 29 years with no answers. After this passage of time, they want answers and to know what happened to her. Abduction victims have been found alive after 50 years. I understand that three kidnap victims were found alive after that period of time, in the United Kingdom. Even if Gina is no longer alive, she deserves to be remembered and properly buried. Someone (s) has information that can lead to her whereabouts.
