Theories

Authorities believe that Ashley voluntarily disappeared. However, she hasn’t been seen or heard from since 2007. And it’s possible that she’s being held against her will. Reportedly, there was once a theory that her case was connected to the disappearances of two other Cleveland teenagers, Amanda Berry, 16, and Georgina (Gina) DeJesus, 14, who disappeared in April 2004. In May 2013, Amanda and Gina were located alive after Amanda called 9-1-1 and fled the Cleveland home of Ariel Castro. She, Gina, and Michelle Knight, who went missing in 2002 at the age of 20, were held against there will for their entire disappearances.

Ariel Castro

Amanda had given birth to a daughter whom Ariel fathered. The child was six years old when all three women were rescued. In July 2013, Ariel Castro pleaded guilty of all charges. These include multiple counts of kidnappings and rape and five counts of murder. Reportedly, he had beaten Knight on multiple occasions and forced her to miscarry after fathering five children with her. Castro was sentenced to life in prison plus one thousand years. Authorities stated that he would never be released. One month after Castro began serving his sentence, he hanged himself in his cell.

Authorities investigated the possibility that Castro contributed to Ashley’s disappearance. Reportedly, they found nothing that linked him to Ashley Summers or to any other individual.

Appeal

Ashley Summer’s mother has a personal Facebook profile. One day, when posting about her missing daughter, she wrote: “The hardest of all is not knowing.” She and Ashley’s other loved ones have had to endure ten years of not knowing. They have endured ten years of not knowing where Ashley is. Her loved ones have suffered ten years of not knowing if she is safe. And they have suffered a decade of not knowing if Ashley is alive or dead. But knowing that three missing girls have been rescued alive, surely gives them hope. But someone (s) has to call in tips or leads or Ashley will always be a missing person. Will her loved ones have to spend a tenth Christmas without her being brought home?
