She was never seen again. Where is she?

Find Michaela Joy Garecht, still missing! Michaela is missing from Hayward, California. She was last seen on November 19, 1988. Garecht’s case is classified as a non-family abduction. Michaela was born on January 24. At her disappearance, she was nine years old. Her current age is 38 years old. At this time, she was 4’8″ tall and weighed 75 pounds. Michaela Garecht is a Caucasian female. She has blonde hair and blue eyes. Michaela’s nickname is Kayla. Her ears are prominent and both are pierced.

Michaela’s eyes slant downward a little bit. At the time of her 1988 disappearance, Michaela’s teeth were a little bit mottled. Her hair may darken as she gets older. Possibly, she may have grown tall in adulthood. All her siblings are tall. Michaela’s eyes may now need to be corrected. At her disappearance, Michaela was wearing a white t-shirt. It had “Metro” printed printed on the front and images and images of people were printed into its mid-section. Michaela was wearing denim denim pants rolled above her knees.

At her disappearance, Michaela was also wearing flesh-colored nylon stockings. She was last seen in white anklet socks and black cloth shoes. They had brown plastic soles. Michaela was also wearing three-inch-long pearl or white-colored earrings. The latter would have resembled feathers.

No Charges

In 1990, Timothy Bindner sent a holiday card to an Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) profiler. The card showed an image of a young girl holding up four fingers. Amanda Campbell vanished in 1991 at the age of four. Search dogs traced Amanda’s scent and the scents of Amer Swartz-Garcia and Angela Bugay. Authorities never had sufficient evidence to connect Bindner to these cases. But he was known to visit the cemetery sometimes. The California State Patrol gave Bindner a heroism award after he assisted victims in the San Francisco State earthquake.
He has never been charged in any of the cases.

Other Suspects?

Authorities have considered James Daveggio as a possible suspect. He and his former girlfriend, Michelle Lyn Michaud, were charged with abducting, raping, and murdering Vanessa Lei Swanson. Both were also charged with sexual assault in mid-1990s unrelated cases. In 2002, Michaud And Daveggio were convicted of Swanson’s murder and sentenced to death. They’s awaiting execution. Curtis Dean Anderson, who was convicted of the 2000 kidnapping and molestation of a young California girl, was also mentioned as a possible suspect in Michaela’s case.

Another Possible Suspect

In June 2001, investigators searched Anderson’s mother’s residence. THey were searching for evidence linking him to other girls’ cases. Nothing, however, was found. In 2009, They announced that Anderson had confessed to Amber’s murder a month before he died in prison in 2007. They were closing her case and ending her search. Police spent 18 months investigating his statement. They couldn’t find any evidence to refute it. Anderson is also considered a suspect in the 1999 disappearance of Karla Rodriguez.

A New Connected Case?

In Summer 2009, 29 year old Jaycee Dugard was found alive in Antioch, California. She was found living in Phillip Craig Garrido’s home. Phillip and his wife, Nancy Garrido, had abducted Jaycee off the street in 1991. Dugard was 11 years old at the time. They held her captive on their property for 18 years. In captivity, Jaycee gave birth to two daughters fathered by Garrido. Dugard and her daughters were reunited with her family. The Garridos were charged with kidnapping, false imprisonment, and rape. They have been convicted of these charges.

Dugard was close to Michaela’s age when she was abducted. They two girls were physically alike. Their abductions were notably alike. Phillip had been sentenced to 50 years in prison for rape and kidnapping. But he was paroled early in August 1998.This was just moths before Michaela’s abduction. Garrido went to live with his mother in Antioch. This is only 30 miles from Hayward. Authorities investigated the idea that the Garridos had abducted Michaela They could find no connection.

“Speed Freak Killers”

Two more suspects became suspects in Michaela’s abduction in 2012. They are Wesley Howard Shermantine, Jr., and Loren Joseph Herzog. They are known as “Speed Freak Killers.” They were a team of serial killers who were arrested in 2000. Ultimately, they were convicted or murdering several females in in the 1980s and 1990s. Authorities believe they have up to 15 victims. Shermantine is on death row. Herzog’s sentence was reduced from 78 years to 14 years. The court had ruled that his confession had been coerced.

More Victims

Herzog was paroled in in 2010 and killed himself in January 2012. He had learned that his former partner was cooperating with authorities. And he had agreed to reveal where the victims’ bodies were in exchange for a payment of $33,000. Shermantine led investigators to the skeletal remains of Chevelle Wheeler and Cyndi Vanderheiden. Respectively, both had been missing since 1985 and 1998. He also led them to an abandoned well in Linden, California. It held 300 human bones and personal items.

Further Investigation

Shermantine told authorities that the well contained up to 20 victims. Michaela was one of them. He blames Herzog for all the murders. And he says he only helped dispose of the bodies. Authorities are working on sorting out all the well’s contents and identifying all the bones. Shermantine and Herzog are being investigated in other missing persons cases. These include Ruth Leamon, Phillip Martin, Susan Bender, Gayle Parks, and Sylvia Standly. Victims Kimberly Billy, a 19-year-old who vanished in 1984. Joann Hobson, a 16-year-old who vanished in 1985, has also been identified.

Michaela’s mother believes she could have been taken out of the country after her abduction. And she could have become the victim of human trafficking. There have reportedly been sightings of Michaela in Mexico and more recently, in the United Arab Emirates. The latter is a small country off the Persian Gulf.

Michaela’s mother is actively searching for her and hopes that her daughter is still alive. Currently, as of 2017, the mother is fighting cancer on top of coping with having a missing daughter.
